Parachute Pavilion
FEIDAD 2006 Semi-finalist
The aggressive cuts reveal the flexibility of the program on the site, when all the pieces morph into a large continuous surface with the inside out topology. The structural concept for the Pavilion is to use the same structure type of the Parachute Jump – truss system, and elaborate it into a space frame. The density and rhythm compose an elegant structure to connect different programs. Visitors can enjoy the space on the roof and have the view to the ocean. The pavilion now receives pedestrian flow from parking, secondary entrance gates, and the boardwalk in front of the beach. It is the median for visitors to enjoy the site and celebrate the history of Coney Island by the Parachute Jump.
